Community guidelines

This site only works if people can trust what they read. These rules apply to reviews, photos, listings, group applications and messages.

Reviews

First-hand only. Review places you lived in or companies you rented from yourself.
Be specific and fair. Describe what happened and when. Separate facts from opinions.
No conflicts of interest. Landlords, managers, staff and anyone paid or rewarded for a review can't review their own properties or competitors.
No personal information. Don't name individual staff, roommates or neighbors, and never post anyone's contact details.
No threats, slurs or harassment.
One review per place. Update your review if things change instead of posting again.

We don't remove reviews just because they're negative. If a landlord believes a review contains a false statement of fact, they can report it and a moderator will look at it.

Photos

Only upload photos you took. Avoid people's faces, documents and anything that shows personal information. We remove location data from every photo automatically.

Listings and group applications

Only post a sublease if you're allowed to offer it, and keep its status up to date.
Describe the place, the household and your habits, not the kind of person you want based on who they are. Listings and applications can't state preferences about race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, familial status or other protected characteristics. That's why the quiz asks about things like sleep schedules and cleanliness instead.
No scams, fake listings or requests for payment before someone has seen the place.

Messages

Be respectful. Don't spam people or keep messaging someone who isn't interested. You can block anyone from their profile, and you can report any message.

What the badges mean

UIUC verified

The person confirmed they can receive email at an @illinois.edu address. It shows they're part of the UIUC community. It doesn't prove they lived at the place they reviewed.

Resident verified

A moderator checked a document, such as a lease page or housing assignment, showing the author lived at that place during the dates in the review. We ask people to black out everything else and we delete the document after checking.

No badge doesn't mean a review is fake. Many people simply choose not to verify.

Anonymous posting

You can post a review anonymously so your name isn't shown. Moderators can still see who wrote it if it's reported, and all the rules above still apply.

How moderation works

Anyone can report content with the Report link. Moderators review reports and may hide content, remove photos, or suspend accounts that break these rules. Questions about a decision? Email voiceofcu@proton.me.
