Know what you're signing. Sublease: You rent from the current tenant for part of their lease. They usually stay responsible to the landlord. Lease transfer: The lease is formally transferred to you. You deal with the landlord directly from then on. Replacement tenant: The landlord signs a new lease with you to replace a tenant who is leaving.
Never send money before you've seen the place and confirmed with the landlord that the arrangement is approved.
