Privacy

This site is a non-profit student project. We collect only what we need to run the site, we don't sell data and we don't use ads or third-party trackers.

What we collect

  • Account details: your email, username, display name and password (stored encrypted).
  • Profile details you choose to add: introduction, interests, college, major, year and age. You control which of these are shown.
  • What you post: reviews, photos, listings, group application answers, join requests and messages.
  • UIUC verification: if you verify, we store your @illinois.edu address and the date you verified.
  • Technical data: server logs with IP addresses and browser type, kept for security and troubleshooting.

Who can see what

  • Reviews, listings and published group applications are public. Anonymous reviews don't show your name.
  • Quiz answers you mark as private are never shown publicly or used in anyone else's filters. You can choose to share them with a specific group when you ask to join.
  • Messages are visible only to the people in the conversation. Moderators may view a message if it's reported or to investigate abuse.
  • Your email address is never shown to other users.

Photos

We remove hidden location data (EXIF/GPS) from every uploaded photo.

Cookies

We use only the cookies needed to keep you logged in and protect forms from forgery. No analytics or advertising cookies.

Email

We email you for password resets, UIUC verification codes and, if you leave the setting on, important updates like join requests. You can turn off update emails in Settings.

Keeping and deleting data

You can delete your account anytime in Settings. That permanently deletes your profile, reviews, listings, group applications and saved items. Messages you sent stay in the other person's conversation but show as from a deleted user. Server logs are kept for a limited time.

Security

The site uses HTTPS, encrypted passwords and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a unique password.
